Robert Jacob Pearce is presently the Director of Library and Information Services at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth. He is originally from Eersterus in Pretoria but is residing for the past 8 years in Port Elizabeth. He holds amongst others a Master’s Degree in Librarianship from UNISA and a Diploma in Industrial Psychology, also from UNISA. He has been a Librarian for the past 42 years of which 30 years were spent at the University Libraries if NMMU, UNISA, Venda and Vaal University of Technology. He has been a professional member since LIASA’s inception and was the first Branch Chairperson for LIASA in Gauteng. He has published articles and chapters in books on Librarianship and Afrikaans Literature in various countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium and South Africa. Since 2007 he has been a member of the South African Academy for Science and Arts. He is an avid musician – vocals and playing the guitar – dramatist and poetry writer.
