Members of the Library and Information Services sector are hereby invited to nominate suitable candidates from the following sub-sectors to be considered for appointment to the LIASA Professional Body Board for a three-year period, from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2018:
- Higher Education Libraries (incl. TVET College Libraries)
- Library Schools
- Public Libraries
- Research Institute Libraries
- School Libraries
- Special Libraries
The objective of the Board is to advise, determine and implement policy for the sector on matters relating to LIASA’s Professional Body status. The core functions of the Board are to advise on implementation of the Professional Body status; to develop policies, rules and regulations pertaining to the management and maintenance of the Professional Body status; to play an oversight role to ensure sector compliance and to report to the LIASA Executive Committee on matters relevant to the Professional Body status; to exercise the delegated authority to develop a functional structure for the Professional Body status; and to ensure that the Professional Body status obligations are met through dialogue, cooperation, capacity building, technical assistance, and infrastructure development.
Nominees should: have expertise in the library and information services sector; be willing to deliver a voluntary service to the sector; be a LIASA member in good standing for at least five consecutive years; have access to communication technology; and hold a Master’s Degree in LIS or related field plus five (5) years’ experience as a manager in a leadership position or hold an Honours Degree in LIS or related fields plus ten (10) years’ experience as a manager or in a leadership position.

Travel and accommodation costs will be covered by LIASA, in line with the LIASA Financial Policy for the three face to face meetings per annum.
