First Announcement
Bloemfontein, "the city of roses", or also called by its Sesotho name Mangaung, "the place where cheetahs dwell", forms the backdrop for the 11th Annual LIASA Conference 2009.
LIASA (the Library and Information Association of South Africa) is a national, non-profit, professional association that represents the interest of and promotes the development and image of library and information workers. The Association advocates and supports the provision of efficient, user-oriented and excellent library and information services that aspire to equitable access to information for all communities (literate and illiterate) in South Africa. LIASA is further committed to the development of an informed nation by promoting literacy and numeracy, and lobbying against the closure of libraries.
This annual conference in the field of Library and Information Services is a key networking event that focuses on the latest developments in the profession.
The conference will fulfil the need to stimulate debate on innovative theories, approaches, principles and applications of the LIS profession. It will provide an opportunity for LIS practitioners to share their knowledge, experiences and best practices in the various areas of the profession.
