HELIG Webinar on the Clinical Librarian (CL) Service Pilot Project, 28 July 2016

Please join us in this exciting free webinar in the current HELIG WEBINAR Series.

The Clinical Librarian (CL) Service Pilot Project at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital (RXWMCH),  Cape Town.

Dilshaad Brey and Gill Morgan, Subject Librarians at UCT Health Sciences Library will share their experiences of the CL Service.

The Clinical Librarian (CL) Service was piloted in Ward B1, a clinical ward, at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital (RXWMCH), from August to December 2015.  The aim of the pilot project was to assess the viability of providing real time, point-of-care information at the Hospital. The librarians were embedded in a multi-disciplinary clinical team and accompanied the team on weekly ward rounds.

One of the drivers for the CL service is UCT Libraries’ strategic objective to “enable research success by investigating, designing and implementing innovative support services”.

Clinical librarianship, while being virtually non-existent in South Africa is fairly well-established in the USA & UK. It is considered a “profession- within-a-profession”. It entails providing the right info (evidence based) at the right time (just-in-time) at the right place (in the clinical setting).

Due to the success of the pilot project, the service has been implemented for 2016.
