It is with great regret that I have to inform you that our Open Access colleague, Hilton Gibson, passed away this morning after a struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Hilton was know for his irreplaceable contribution to the DSpace and Open Access community in South African and the African continent at large.
Very sad news about Hilton Gibson with whom many of us would have experienced his contributions to OA community, and would have worked with him.
Rest in Peace.
This is sad news indeed! Our condolences to Hilton’s family, colleagues at Stellenbosch University and the broader Open Access community. He will be sorely missed.
This sad, and hurting news. We shared so many deep conversations, and enjoyed cups and cups of Tea at the TENET conference last year. He is a man of great wisdom. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Hilton.
So sad, and a great loss to the IR community.
My heartiest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May his soul rest in peace.

I wish to convey, on behalf of the UP Library staff members, our condolences and deepest sympathy to Hilton’s family, friends and colleagues – especially those who interacted with him on a daily basis at the JS Gericke Library.
May his soul rest in peace.
These are sad news for Higher education sector in South Africa. I remember Hilton’s contribution to webnar’s for HELIG group. He was always passionate and committed. May his soul rest in peace.
Sad news indeed. Hilton’s contributions to the OA community was just part of the generous sharing of his expertise. May his soul rest in peace.
