In memoriam: Sebina Levember

It is with deepest sadness to inform you about the passing of our colleague, Ms Sebina Levember, an Information Resources Purchaser at the UNISA Library.  She passed on, in the afternoon of the 16 April 2018 after a short illness.  Our sincere condolences to her loved ones and colleagues in this difficult time.   We will communicate information on the memorial service and funeral once this is available.

The Levember, Mohlamme, UNISA family and LIASA members

The Library and information Association of South Africa (LIASA) is deeply saddened by the passing of Ms Sebina Levember.  We are honoured as a Library and Information Services (LIS) sector, to have had women of Sebina’s calibre.

Sebina has been a continuous member of LIASA since 2014 and has served in various Portfolios as follows:

  • Secretary for Support Staff Interest Group (SSIG) from 2005-2006;
  • Additional member for Information and Communication Technology in Libraries Interest Group (ICTLIG) National from 2011-2012;
  • Secretary for the Higher Education Libraries Interest Group (HELIG) National from 2012-2014;
  • Treasurer for HELIG National from 2014-2016 and
  • A member for Gauteng North Branch Executive Committee as Additional Member and Convenor for Research, Education and Training Interest Group (RETIG) from 2016-2018.

Sebina was a vibrant fun loving person, she always availed herself to serve LIASA and she had love, passion and commitment for the LIS profession.  Before joining UNISA, she worked at Monash University for several years under the leadership of Ms Nthabiseng Kotsokoane.

On behalf of LIASA governance and membership, as the President of LIASA, I extend our sincere condolences to all affected families, to friends, LIASA members and the LIS sector at large. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss, grief and pain. May her soul rest in peace.

The Gauteng North Branch is saddened by the announcement of the passing on of our colleague, Ms Sebina Levember. She was an active member of LIASA Gauteng North. She  joined LIASA in 2002 and has served in the following LIASA portfolios:

  • Additional member for LACIG National, 2011-2012
  • Secretary HELIG National, 2013-2014
  • Treasure for HELIG National 2014-2016
  • Currently she was an additional member and RETIG Convenor and the Gauteng North 2016-2018.
