Branch meeting: Web Design
The Branch Committee invited Ms Marisa Venter of the IT Department at the Bloemfontein Campus of CUT FS to tell the branch members more about Basic Web Page Design. The meeting took place on 27 May 2009 in the Library Auditorium on the Bloemfontein Campus of CUT FS.
To design a web page is not so difficult if one has the right tools. There are many commercial products available. The design aspects are the most important, because it has to look good, be functional and easy to navigate. Usually graphic designers attend to this part of the process.
- Planning ~ it must be value-added content to add value to what you have to show – text, images, colour palette, multimedia.
- Navigation Map ~ structures (linear, grid, hierarchical, etc), typography, images, page layout, colour.
- Reviewing & testing ~ free of spelling and grammatical errors, layout consistent, browsers display website properly, etc.
- Publishing ~ obtain domain name and IP address from internet service provider, acquire server space, upload (publish).
- Maintain ~ changing, adding new information, deleting obsolete information.
