Mr Mzo Ndlela

Work experience & LIS qualifications

I, Mzothule Ndlela, am a passionate librarian who has accumulated quantity and quality of knowledge serving in different library establishments under EThekwini and Msunduzi Municipal Library Services. In respect of experience (16 year in the LIS sector), my scope covers working at the Acquisition, Circulation desk, Cataloguing, System librarian. Currently, I am the Legal Deposit Senior Librarian – Cataloguing department at the Msunduzi Municipal Library Services.  With respect to academia, I hold the National Diploma in Library Science, B-Tech, Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies and I am currently completing Master’s Degree in Librarianship at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

I am the Chairperson of the Standardization Committee at Msunduzi Municipal Library Services, and the LIASA KZN PRO (2014 – 2016, and 2016 – 2018). The opportunities have adequately sharpened my communication, leadership, cataloguing, project management and training skills which are vital in our changing profession.

I have done voluntary work for LIASA during the LIASA conference in KZN, Durban ICC, 1-5 October 2012.

Paper Presented

  1. Presented a paper titled: The status of Official Publications (OP) at the Bessie Head Library at the Official Publications Depositories Workshop, held at the National Library of South Africa (NLSA) 29 – 30 March 2017.
  2. Presented a paper titled: The status of Official Publications (OP) at the Bessie Head Library at the Official Publications Depositories Workshop, held at the Msunduzi Municipal Library Services/Bessie Head Library 28 – 29 June 2017.
  3. Presented a paper titled: An investigation on Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) conference attendance by eThekwini Municipal Library (EML) support staff members during the 17th Annual Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) Conference 2016, 10 – 14 October 2016. Conference Theme: Libraries in Action: Transformation and Development towards 2030.
  4. Presented a paper titled: Stakeholders engagement at the Library Marketing Seminar, 12 – 13 May 2015, organized by the National Library of South Africa (NLSA) in collaboration with the KZN Provincial Library Services (KZNPLS) and LIASA Marketing and Advocacy Interest Group (MAIG).

LIASA KZN activities

  • I was instrumental in reviving the LIASA KZN IGBIS (2017).
  • Member of the local organizing committee for the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Branch organizing LIASA KZN Leadership Seminar, held at the Msunduzi Municipal Library Services – 07 June 2017.
  • Organized the Legal Deposit & International Standard Number (ISN) Symposium, held at the Msunduzi Municipal Library Services – 28 – 29 June 2017.
  • Member of the local organizing committee for the LIASA KZN Branch organizing the South African Library Week Launch at Ixopo – 17 March 2017.
  • Member of the local organizing committee for the 17th LIASA national conference – October 2016.
  • Member of the local organizing committee for the LIASA national launch of the SALW at the Sibusisiwe Hall, Mandeni – 11 March 2016.
  • Member of the local organizing committee for the LIASA KZN Branch – May 2016 Seminar.
  • Organizing and training of EndNote usage at the Msunduzi Municipal Library Services – March 2015.

While serving my first term as the LIASA KZN PRO, the branch received the most improved branch in 2015 and 2016.
