Ms Gizelle Kirkman

Mpumalanga Branch Librarian of the Year

Gizelle is a friendly, outgoing person who is very dedicated to her work.
Her door is always open to colleagues, the public and especially children and in the true spirit of librarianship she goes out of her way to assists them where possible.

She is passionate about taking libraries to the people and is involved with the establishing of libraries in previously disadvantaged areas of her community and making sure that the people know about and use these libraries. To accomplish this she plays a big role in the planning and execution of the Steve Tshwete Municipality: Library sections marketing strategy.

She is also involved with assisting schools and teachers to organise and get their school libraries up and functioning as she believes strongly that the children is out future library users and the more exposure they get to libraries the better.
She does regular outreaches to all schools in the community to make the children and teachers aware of the benefits the library has for them and to do library orientation.

Gizelle is very active in the LIASA Mpumalanga branch as secretary (2010 – 2014) and Treasurer (2014 – 2016) also as PACLIG Secretary (2012 – 2016); as such she is helping to promote LIASA to all the people in Mpumalanga. With her help and dedication Mpumalanga branch has grown in leaps and bounds over the past years.
