Ms Paradise Nkomo
She graduated with B:Tech Library and Information Services ML Sultan Technikon (DUT) in 2002. She starterd her career as a Librarian at the University of Natal and relocated to the Northern Cape in 2003 where she worked as Principal Librarian at the Judy Scott Library under Kimberley Libraries untill 2009. She started work at the National Institute of Higher Education (now Sol Plaatje University) as Senior Assistant Librarian in 2009-2011. In March 2011 Paradise was appointed Librarian at the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature to date.
Paradise is Mellinial Librarian who uses Social medias to promote Libraries and Librianship. She is very passionate about LIS and enjoys doing Collection Development (always putting the needs of the communtiy she serves first), Cataloguing and assist Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) in fullfilling their role of Oversight, Lawmaking. She also provides in the informational needs of all the government departments in the Northern Cape.
She served on EXCO for Knowledge Management Forum (KMF) as Library Commision Leader from 2012-2014 and as Secretary of KMF from 2014-2016 which include Researchers, Knowledge Specialists and Librarians in the Legislative Sector and Parliament of RSA. While in the KMF Paradise developed and presented Library policy for Legislative sector which was adopted by SALSA and used by other Legislative Libraries. She also presented papers on “The Role of Libraries in the Legislature” as a guest speaker in different Provinces.
She also serves as a Secretary for Library Sub-Committee at the Legislature’s Internal Arrangement Committee.
She goes out of her way to take the library service to the people within the Legislature and outside by ensuring that information requests are done timeously. She also advocates for Libraries in the Northern and work with Portifolio Commitee for NC Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and Education. She serves as the eyes and ears of other Librarians during DSAC budget speeches, quarterly meetings and share information with relevant stakeholders.
Paradise is an active LIASA member since 2005. She attends all the NC LIASA and KMFmeetings and training sessions to empower herself and others. She also attended IFLA Conference in Durban in 2007 and IFLA Pre-Conference CT in 2015 and most LIASA Conferences as a Librarian at NC Provincial Legislature.
As a former Tutor for Information Retrieval at ML Sultan, Paradise still help her colleagues who are struggling with their Unisa Information Science studies especially Descriptive Cataloguing. With her professionalism, work ethics, personality and being a hard worker, she makes it very easy to work with as a Team to take LIASA forward.
