The 11th of April 2017 heralds the start of one of the most important Jewish festivals: Passover or Pesach in Hebrew, and is considered one of the most important observances in Judaism which celebrates the exodus of the ancient Israelites from their slavery in Egypt. The “passing over” refers to the way in which God passed over or protected the homes of the Israelites during the night as they prepared to begin their journey into freedom.
We live in a turbulent world fettered by chains of distrust among nations, separated by different beliefs and practices and, other forms of captivity of the spirit of the global community of human beings. During this significant time we should all acknowledge and remember that freedom is the greatest expression of the quest for human dignity.
To our Jewish members, we wish you well during this time of Passover, as it is observed and celebrated in the company of family and friends.
Chag Sameach and Happy Holidays!
