Switch and enhance your career through the online Post-Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science at Unisa’s Department of Information Science
The overarching purpose of the qualification is to train graduates from other disciplines who wish to obtain a post-graduate specialised qualification in Library and Information Science.
The qualification consists of six modules accounting for a total of 120 credits on NQF level 8.
- ICT applications in Library and Information Services
- Management of Knowledge and Information Services
- Information Users and Use
- Library and Information Practice
- Research Methodology in Information Science
- Descriptive Cataloguing and Classification
Candidates need to have a Bachelor’s degree in any other field, or a BTech in another field outside the field of Library and Information Science. Candidates who hold a Bachelor’s degree or a BTech in Library and Information Science as a major may not be considered for the PGDLIS, but should rather register for the Honours in Information Science.
Application for admission
The applications for admission for 2016 will open in August 2015. All applications for admission should be made online at www.unisa.ac.za
Duration of the study
The PGDLIS is a one-year qualification but can take longer if the student studies part time.
Mode of delivery
The PGDLIS is offered through a blended mode and students are therefore advised to have access to the internet.
