Centre for Information Career Development (CiCD)
The Centre for Information Career Development (CiCD) is a centre within LIASA and is governed by an independant Management Team and the LIASA constitution.
Because of the nature of CiCD's activities it also falls under the banner of Continuing Education and Professional Development (CEPD).
CiCD is funded by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. This grant was awarded over a period of three years to achieve the following goals:
- To address the training and skills development needs of library personnel within existing Library and Information Services in South Africa.
- To contribute towards capacity building of the LIASA branches.
- To assist with leadership training and development of personnel from Carnegie model libraries in South Africa, at the Mortenson Centre for International Library Leadership Programs at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in the USA.
It is CiCD's strategic objective to identify, source and make available qualitative and sector relevant training whereby the Centre contributes to the upgrading of skills required for quality service delivery in line with national and international standards.
The Centre is also setting the foundation for a sustainable Continuing Education Centre in South Africa in the Library and Information Sector. Further more, CiCD is building partnerships between the various institutions, committees and other governing bodies relating to the Library and Information Sector.
