Main purpose of this role:

To execute processes to provide an efficient library service

To assist library users in information retrieval

Circulation of library resources and prescribed textbooks

To maintain an environment that is conducive for learning and study purposes

Reports to:



R4 000 – R5 000 (half day – 3 days per week)

Key Performance/ Responsibility Area:

Execution of library processes

Basic library duties including but not limited to: book shelving, shelf reading, keeping library statistics, recording and displaying of journals

  • Acceptance and initial sorting of materials pertaining to the library
  • Withdrawal process of redundant or missing books, etc, from the library
  • Execution of the circulation of library materials – issues, returns, late materials
  • Process donations received by the library
  • Apply relevant policies and procedures
  • Implement any new systems and designs for TSiBA’s library as required
  • Data input into library catalogue
  •    Assist users on how to access information
  • Support library users with the use of the library and the retrieval of information

     Circulationof student and lecturer textbooks

  • Distribution and collection of required prescribed textbooks

     Co-ordinate library student group

  • Co-ordinate and basic training of student library group (HCBA leadership hours and volunteer TSiBA students)

     Additional Duties:

  • Participation in TSiBA’s generic activities (e.g. student and applicant interviews) and events
  • Substitute for the librarian when she is in meetings, conferences or off campus

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum undergraduate degree; library qualification (or studying towards) advantageous
  • Minimum two years’ experience in library services
  • Computer literate and competency in using the Internet, electronic library programs
  • Experience with Google App suite advantageous
  • Able to work half day, three times per week (mornings)
  • Able to work with young people on different levels
  • Demonstrates an understanding of students, their background and related issues
  • Independent worker
  • Works well in a team
  • Accurate and methodical; with particular attention to detail
  • Love of books, knowledge and learning
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to work under pressure
