Vacancy: Library Assistant





SALARY: R113 340.00 – R147 144.00 p.a T6

Job Purpose: To render an effective library service to the community by supporting library management, building and maintaining stock, rendering a good service to clients, providing information, performing administrative duties and finally extending activities through various outreach programs and displays, thus promoting reading, literacy, life-long learning and education.

Duties : Supports the Senior Librarian/Librarian in the provision of a professional library service; Attends to specific activities associated with maintaining and organizing library stock and support with specific arrangements; Attends to user needs/requirements and executes specific processes associated with the membership, circulation of stock and use of services; Responsible for information queries from users and scholars, making resources and information available; Promoting the library and its services, reading, literacy and lifelong learning, making the library attractive, extending services and educating; Performs certain administrative and financial duties associated with public libraries.

Requirements: Grade 12; Good interpersonal and communication / typing skills; Able to work independently; Computer literate (Word/Excel); Fluency in 2 of the 3 regional languages (Afrikaans, English, Xhosa,).

Experience: 1 year relevant experience.

Preferred requirement: Any post matric qualification to do with library and information science, education, customer care and knowledge of SLIMS.
