Western Cape Branch Librarian of the Year 2016

Ms Mercia Sias

Western Cape Librarian of the Year 2016

I met Mercia in 2001 when she worked for Drakenstein Municipality during library related events.  Mercia is an individual with a passion for our profession and libraries in general.

From Mercia’s CV it is clear to see that she is a “mover and shaker”, and doesn’t like to take “no” for an answer.

She thrives on taking on big, challenging projects, always in the pursuit of creating a better life for the Community she lives in.  Mercia has contributed extensively to the development of Groenheuwel and Chicago communities.  Her passion for the community made her do research / a case study for Groenheuwel library to look into the needs and wants of the community.

Mercia’s pursuit for excellence continues in her personal life and career as she holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.

Mercia definitely changes people’s lives.  She is full of empathy, compassion and commitment towards others.  Whatever she decided to do, she makes a success of it and take full responsibility.  She goes beyond and excels in doing much more than is expected from her.

It is a privilege to work with Mercia on the BEC as well as other platforms.
