HELIG Coffee Talk #1:  "Going hybrid with Library orientation".

With the current Covid-19 adjusted Level 1 Lockdown and the start of the academic year upon us, the question on academics and librarians' minds are: "How are we going to deal with orientation this year?". There is no doubt that orientation forms an integral part of the First Year Experience (FYE) across universities. In most cases, the very first academic library visit for a first year student is during orientation where they are introduced to their librarian and library and information services offered. During our HELIG webinar in 2021 on "Going virtual with Library orientation", vibrant discussions took place and sharing of best practices on virtual orientation possibilities.  Since many academic libraries might not be ready to fully open their physical spaces yet, calls for a time to reflect on the 2021 virtual library orientation and to have a conversation on academic-librarian collaboration to potentially implement innovative hybrid orientation programmes for the 2022 Academic Year.

Join us on Tuesday, 25 January 2021 at 14:00 for an informal conversation online over coffee to share ideas and current best practices to implement into the 2022 orientation programmes. The session will be facilitated by Dr. Lynn Kleinveldt, HELIG Chair and academic at CPUT, Mr Larshan Naicker, HELIG Chair-Elect and Deputy Director at UFS Library and Ms Ingrid Thomson, HELIG PRO and librarian at UCT .
