“UNISA Research Data Management transition: a distance learning university case study” - Makaba Bongani Macanda

Makaba Bongani Macanda is a research data curator at the University of South Africa’s Library and Information Services and works in the Information Resources and Content Management Directorate. Mr Macanda holds an Honours Degree in Information Science from the University of South Africa, plus a certificate in Scientific Big Data Sharing and Publications for Developing Countries from the Chinese Academy of Science.

His duties include; data curation, managing the research data repository, e-visibility; advocacy, awareness raising amongst the Unisa community to encourage a culture of data sharing practices for re-use.

Mr Macanda also serves on the NeDICC steering committee (Network of Data Information Curation Centres), which is a community of practice amongst South African institutions of higher learning and research and science councils with an interest in digital curation.

The presentation will focus on Unisa’s RDM journey and the processes involved.
